Introduction
Once again, the Inter-American Commission on Organic Agriculture (CIAO) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), together with SANAS, are organizing a major educational initiative focused on agroecology, in which veterinary phytotherapy plays a key role.
In 2026, we will hold the International Symposium "Medicinal Plants, Sustaining Biodiversity & Agroecology".
The event will take place online on November 24 and 25, 2026, with a three-hour session each day. We will address the role of medicinal plants in soil fertility, the circular economy, biodiversity and pollinators, animal health, culture and ancestral knowledge, innovation, and science.

Goals:
To examine the role of medicinal plants in biodiversity, as a source of resources for pollinators.
Discover new links between ethnoveterinary medicine and experimental science from an agroecological perspective.
Highlight key aspects of the cultivation and traditional use of medicinal plants from a comprehensive and innovative perspective.
Create a space for exchange and reflection that fosters knowledge on animal welfare, phytotherapy, biodiversity, the circular economy and organic animal production.
