In line with this, the European Commission’s new international strategy, ‘From Farm to Fork’, was launched in 2020, aiming for a 50% reduction in the use of synthetic antimicrobials in livestock farming.

Furthermore, the European Green Deal aims to dedicate 25% of the total utilised agricultural area to organic farming within this decade. Consumers’ growing interest in organic production is linked to the value placed on animal welfare as the key attribute of these foods. In this regard, the use of medicinal plants of veterinary interest can play a significant role in health and management conditions on organic farms, in line with international policies on biodiversity protection and strategies to promote pollinators.
